Today, my heart aches.
It is a familiar pain—one I know all too well. A pain I have spent years trying to outrun, control, and silence. It is the pain that taught me I wasn’t good enough, that I wasn’t deserving, that I had to earn love and acceptance. It is the pain that fills my heart with fear.
Lately, I have been doing something I never thought I knew how to do: allowing myself to be vulnerable. I have been expressing my raw emotions instead of hiding them. But in doing so, I have also uncovered more pain and discomfort than I expected. It has awakened old wounds—the wounds of not feeling seen, heard, or truly understood.
Some days, it makes me want to retreat back into silence. To crawl back into my shell. To disconnect from the outside world and hide within myself because that once felt like safety.
But I’m tired.
I’m tired of living in survival mode. I’m tired of feeling like I can’t open up and share my inner world with the people I love without fearing criticism or judgment. My tears don’t seem to fall anymore. Instead, the pain settles quietly inside of me. It feels like resilience has taken the place of release, creating a silent storm within my heart.
I know I’m not perfect, and I’m no longer trying to be. I’m simply trying to be myself—my true self, raw and unfiltered.
I am constantly evolving. That evolution can be difficult for others to understand, but it is also difficult for me to experience. Every day I feel parts of myself shifting, growing, and changing. That journey has often felt lonely.
Writing these thoughts and releasing them here has been life-changing. It has become a place where I can breathe, where I can empty what my heart has been carrying. It has been healing in ways I never expected.
I’ve wanted to invite my girlfriend into my inner world, but sometimes it feels as though it’s too much for her to hold. That realization hurts.
For so long, I tried to become everything I thought everyone else needed me to be. I kept reaching outside of myself, believing that if I could just be enough, I would finally feel secure. Yet I kept feeling like I was failing.
I have taken accountability for my actions. I have owned the ways fear shaped my behavior. I recognize now that I often tried to control outcomes and people because I was afraid of losing them. I was unconsciously asking others to follow the script my fear had written, believing that if everything stayed predictable, I would be safe.
That wasn’t fair to them.
And it wasn’t fair to me.
I’m beginning to understand that before I could ever receive the love I longed for, I first had to offer it to myself. I had to release the fear of lack. I had to release the fear of loss. I had to stop believing that love could only exist if I controlled it.
For so long, I lived from my subconscious wounds. I lived in survival.
Today, I choose something different.
I choose awareness over fear.
I choose consciousness over survival.
I choose to witness my thoughts instead of being ruled by them. I choose to honor my emotions instead of hiding from them.
I don’t know exactly who I am becoming yet, but I trust that every honest step I take is leading me closer to the person I have always been beneath the fear.
And maybe healing isn’t about never hurting again.
Maybe healing is finally allowing myself to feel the pain without abandoning myself in the process.
